The Midday "Munch" Box: The British Open at St. Andrews

As we speak, this year's British Open is under way and it would be a joke to think that Tiger Woods is not under the proverbial microscope as he enters the tournament today, after failing to win a major title in his last two opportunities this year. It sound's funny to say that his last two finishes in a a major tournament were failures, but by his standards two top-5 finishes at The Masters in Augusta, and the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach respectively, have left both Tiger and Golf elitists bewildered. Was his former swing coach Hank Haney no longer effective? Has he lost his legendary short game? Has the whole circus that he created finally driven him off the edge, or has he just lost confidence in himself?

With all of these questions surrounding Mr. "Sinking putts, nailing sluts" he can at least breathe a little easier knowing that he returns to St. Andrews course where he has previously won two British Opens, and as a matter of fact, he has won the last two British Opens that have been held at what seems to be one of his favorite courses in the world. Whether we see the Tiger we're historically used to will be the most talked about discussion over these next few days at St. Andrews. But, it should be pretty certain that Tiger is going to be at his highest comfort level at this course. This is an important 4 days for Tiger because if he doesn't make a serious run at winning the British Open, the media circus will continue to grow, increasing the pressure on him to return back to his old, dominating form. I know St. Andrews isn't a hard-rock cafe waitress, or some Brazzers.com super slut pornstar, but Tiger has to focus on driving a different set of balls into a hole he used to own no questions asked, or Nicklaus' record of 18 major wins may start to get away from him really fast. People this is golf!

Here's a list of some notable leaders from the First Round on Day 1:

Rory McIlroy- The youngest player in the field at 21 is leading at -9 early on. Many believe the stud from Northern Ireland will be great one day but he's barely out of diapers yet.
Louis Oosthuizen- This dude from South Africa is currently two strokes behind McIlroy at -7.
John Daly- The American with the whackiest pants on tour is tied for third with three others at -6.
Tiger Woods- Currently tied for sixth with nine others at -5.

The next group of players are all tied for 15th and up.

More British Open coverage to follow throughout the tournament this weekend.
