"People in and around the Cardinals' ballclub tell me that the former No. 1 pick might be cut, not because he hasn't completed a high percentage of passes -- because he has -- but because the players there have no faith in the guy and don't believe they can win with him," Judge writes.
Leinart has said publicly that he's outplayed Derek Anderson this preseason in the race to become Arizona's starting quarterback.
To quote my boy Johnny Drama, "What the fuck are you doing Ken?' First you won't start him. Now you want to cut him!? I don't understand it. Sure, I know that Leinart gives off more of a "Frat Boy, all I wanna do is funnel brews and chill with hot chicks in the hot tub" persona rather than a winning NFL quarterback but the preseason performance is there. I know the Cards are coming off back to back playoff appearances but Derek Anderson!? Same guy that got run out of town in Cleveland? Same guy that has had only one good pro season on his record? Not the 2-time National College Champ and Heisman winner?! Come on, you gotta give the kid a shot.
If you know me, you know I'm a big supporter of the USC football program. Leinart has always been my dog and I was really excited to see him given the opportunity to take the reins of a NFL team's offense full time. The only thing I can think of as a reasonable explanation is Whisenhunt trying to light an inspirational fire under Leinart's ass in order to stoke the competitive college flames that Leinart possesses. If Whisenhunt isn't trying to do that then Leinart better do it for himself.
How about Pete Carroll making a play for Leinart to run the Seahawk offense. Thats another situation I am interested in for this NFL season. I'm expecting a turn around for that Seattle franchise and something tells me the Frat Boy Funneler would be the perfect fit with his former college coach and a familiar pro offense.
