The Sorkin Notes: Mark Cuban Trying To Cop The Texas Rangers

Suessmandzadeh has been steady killin' it for the SportsBrah's in terms of everything sports rumors, scuttlebutt, and potential chatter. However, Dbl-A is here to demonstrate that the Sorkin Notes include but are not limited to the possible purchase of a pro team. In this case, the Texas Rangers ownerships filing of bankruptcy has opened the door for the intense bidding that is going on now.

Current Rangers President and Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan is the preferred buyer, if you ask anyone around Major League Baseball. Commissioner Bud Selig wants to basically keep it in the family because the greatest competition for buying the team is headed by the NBA's Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Cuban is shrewd, aggressive, and absolutely swimming in dough. He's like a young, basketball owners version of Jerry Jones, just without any of the rings. He's constantly outspoken about other teams, players, coaches, referees and even his own guys. Cuban is a guy who only wants his team to succeed, but sometimes it seems as if his antics create a distraction to his greater goal of winning a title.

Cuban tried to buy the Cubs a few years back but was denied mainly because baseball wants to keep his pompus, larger-then the team persona out of this league. Unfortunately, it looks like baseball isn't going to get their wish. Cuban leads the bidding for the Rangers so far, and this time they cannot prevent him from copping this squad. Plus, with already a very solid foundation of talent on the Rangers, Cuban will have the resources, and most importantly the desire to turn this team from a mid level contender, into a sure-fire World Series threat.
