The Road Trip From Hell: Game 4

The Mets were able to escape San Francisco with a shred of hope, winning today's game 4-3 in 10 innings. Johan Santana provided the stop gap, holding the Giants to 1 run over 8 innings, striking out 5 in the process. Brohan was in line for the win until K-Roid served up his usual plate of 9th Inning ajada, blowing a save for the 5th time of the season. Frankie would have cost us the game, but was saved by a blown call at the plate. Ike Davis was the hero, knocking in a crucial insurance run in the top of the 8th and the go ahead run in the top of the 10th.

Wow. I couldn't sit still the whole game, let alone the bottom of the 9th. Johan pitched himself into some sticky situations but continued to pitch himself out of them. Might as well call him Second Half Santana. Through 4 second half starts, Johan has only allowed 2 earned runs while striking out 22 throughout 24 innings. Unfortunately, due to a lack of run support and shoddy bullpen work hes only sporting a 2-0 second half record. The guy is a gamer. And people were calling Pelfrey the ace a few weeks back!?! Please. Johan Santana is the man you want on the mound.

I think it's time for Jerry to start letting Johan finish his games. I understand taking him out because he had 115 pitches at the end of the 8th but he was cruising, retiring the last 8 straight batters he faced. Johan toes the rubber, gives it his all, pitches us into winning spots and Jerry keeps rewarding him by letting K-Roid blow his gems. I AIN'T HAVING IT BRO. Johan is a big boy and a fierce competitor, I want to see more complete games out of the horse of this rotation especially when its a 3 runs or less lead.

Jason Bay actually showed up. That base knock he produced in the top of the 10th was crucial as he came around to score on Ike "Super Man" Davis' wall scrapping double. Can we ask anything more from Ike? Nothing phases this rook.

As for K-Rod. Its like watching an episode of 24 when he pitches. When is the nuke going to go off? Is Jack Bauer going to make it in time? Has the nuclear reactor met critical mass with a meltdown pending?  I don't feel safe when he comes out of the bullpen, especially when the Mets are sporting anything less than a grand slam lead. He is constantly missing spots and serving up meatballs. With a good call at the plate in the bottom of the 9th this post is written with an extremely heavy heart.

Thought we lost this game but something actually went our way on the road and we escape San Fran with a win and a record of 1-3 on "The Road Trip From Hell."
