RealGM - Chargers owner Alex Spanos is looking to sell a minority stake to help with estate planning.
The 87-year-old Spanos and his wife, Faye, own 36 percent of the team. Their four children each own 15 percent. Two minority owners own the other 4 percent.
"To be clear, this is a sale of a minority stake only; the Spanos family will continue to hold a controlling majority stake in the team under all circumstances," attorney Mark Fabiani said.
Being a minority owner of the Chargers would probably be like the experience pedophiles have when being caught on an episode of To Catch A Predator. At first you think what you are doing is a great idea. You are all jacked up on your way to your first meeting. You're a little nervous, a little hesitant, but come kick off its time to wild out and get down to the nitty gritty. You arrive with party favors, eat the chocolate chip cookies the secretary offers you and then are abruptly asked to take a seat by General Manager A.J. Smith. Smith goes about laying out the parameters of your "ownership" and its about half way through the conversation you realize you've made a terrible mistake. You tell him you understand, but in reality you just want to make a mad dash for the door and get the hell out of there. To bad for you there is a dude waiting on the other side off the door with a taser ready to collect your first payment.
You know what minority ownership means, it means no real say in the direction of the franchise, but hell you sure get to foot the bill when it comes to writing out those game checks. Sure, you reap the rewards if the Chargers brings in millions in sponsorship and television contracts, but you are basically the equivalent of the father of a bastard child. You pay child support but see nothing in return. Just some attitude from the bitch of a mother when she comes around to pick him from his weekly visit. O and trust me, with that stingy bag of mashed up assholes A.J. Smith as your General Manager you'll be getting a lot of attitude. The dude would probably try to hold out on paying the full price for his own mother's funeral bill. Not gonna lie, that deal fucking sucks.
Say I did purchase this 4% stake in the Chargers and they ended up winning the Super Bowl. What the hell does that mean for me? Congratulation, you own 4% of the Lombardi Trophy. 4%!?! What does 4% of the Lombardi trophy look like? Might as well be a damn paper weight and with the money your shelling out, thats one expensive ass paper weight. What the hell is the point in that business decision?
Nope, I'm an all or nothing guy so until that full ownership comes around I'll stick to Madden's Franchise mode and stay out of the chat rooms of minority ownership.
