Baring drastic change, the Countdown to Cowher has begun

Do you have one more miracle run in you Tom?

best trait as a sports fan is that I'm a realist. How couldn't I bee seeing as I am a Mets fan and an Islanders fans, knowing failure and the "next year" mantra all to well. Its unfortunate to say, that the Giants find themselves in my realist cross hairs entering week 12 of the NFL season.

The past two losses to the Cowboys and the Eagles have been brutal, I know. Not just to our record but to the psyche of the fans. Wins and losses don't always tell the whole story. Records can be bloated (7-3 Bears) or even misconceiving in the fact that a team is better than its record (5-5 Chargers). The Giants however find themselves in both categories.

Their 6-4 record is, was and forever shall be considered by me as bloated. Failing to beat their steepest competition in the Titans, Colts and Eagles while pummeling chump squads in the Panthers, Seahawks, Bears, Texans, Cowboys, and Lions. Even worse, they lost to one of those chump squads in the Cowboys. The Redskins even beat the Titans this week. The Redskins!?!? We are better than this! We just haven't show it against good teams yet.

The Giants are being crushed by injuries. Offensive line anchors David Diehl and Shawn O'Hara will be out for an extended period of time. Mr. Clutch aka 3rd & 11 Steve Smith is out till December and now Eli's receiving target Hakeem Nicks is out 3 games. These blows don't help at all.

This isn't algebra, this ain't Trigonometry THIS IS THE NFL. Injuries + Leading the league in turnovers = NO PLAYOFFS. It pains me to say that and it even pains me to say this, if this trend continues Tom Coughlin will be done in New York. I'm an advocate for Coughlin. The man has been a coach on two New York Giant Super Bowl teams, but this is New York and failure will not be tolerated.

With 6 games left in the regular season and an above .500 record, Coughlin has the time and benefit of a fast start to "do his job" but how well can he do it with a the "utter disregard for the security of the football" that Coughlin so bluntly pointed out as plaguing this team. Things must change and change fast. This means Ahmad Bradshaw knowing when to fight for extra yards and just hitting the dirt to end a play. This means Mario Manningham knowing where the markers are at all times during offensive drives. This means wide receivers catching catchable balls rather than tipping them up for easy interceptions.

I have no time for humor here because when my football team loses I, like all other Giant fans, don't find it a laughing matter. As the Giants suite up to play the Jags this week, they must step up because this is a good team. The Jags are 6-4 and tied with the Colts atop the AFC South. So who better to make a statement with by beating a top AFC team. Games must be played and god damn I will be watching but if we lose to the Jags this week, how can anyone take this team seriously? The players must now put it on themselves to solve their problems otherwise it will cost a good man and most importantly a good coach his job.

I like Bill Cowher but I am in no hurry to hand him the keys to my castle. Let Coughlin do his job!
