Final Day at St. Andrews: Oosthuizen is Champ

So as I accurately predicted last night, South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen stayed on his game during his final round at St. Andrews and came out as the British Open champion, for the first major title of his career.

Even though he quietly rolled through four grueling days at St. Andrews, Oosthuizen barely broke a sweat throughout the tournament which is evident by his comfortable 7 shot margin over second place finisher Lee Westwood. Oosthuizen played sensationally in his four days at St. Andrews and his strong play almost excuses the absence of Tiger and Phil on the final day because they basically had no shot anyway. Typically we see surges from both the number one and two players in the world, respectively, in the final rounds, but not at the British Open- not this year.

"That eagle on nine, that got me started," Oosthuizen said. "It was a big change on 12 when Paul made triple and I made birdie. All of a sudden, it was mine to throw away."

I gotta admit I love the approach Oosthuizen took on his way to winning the British Open title. Although he knew he was playing insanely good golf over his first three rounds, any mental flinch or loss of concentration could have cost him. Still, Oosthuizen sniffed the finish line, essentially for two days and instead of folding up and playing conservative, he kept his cool and won it instead of trying not to lose it. Hoist that trophy bro. Mad good four days of golf for this dude.
